The PRS Custom 24 has long been the gold standard of their solidbody line. It immediately stands out with a beautiful Flame Maple Top over Mahogany, glossy Copperburst finish and the iconic bird inlays. It's not just a pretty face though: The PRS 59/09 pickups offer vintage humbucker tones thanks to custom design and choice materials. The neck pickup uses an Alnico II magnet wound to a nominal resistance of 8.4k, which provides a warmed-over tone that retains a pleasing amount of clarity and articulation in the mid to upper register. The bridge pickup also uses an Alnico II magnet wound to a moderate 9.3k resistance. In our opinion this is the perfect recipe for a vintage-voiced humbucker pickup. The weaker Alnico II magnets have a softer pull on the strings, resulting in richer harmonic content that is not overtly woody or midrange heavy like too many run-of-the-mill humbuckers. It's got the low and midrange punch you need and highs that won't ice-pick your audience. Both pickups are impressive clean and dirty and are just a lot of fun to play. Part of this was due to the 5-way switching system that gives you a mixture of humbucker, coil tapped and parallel options to play with. Here's the layout:

Position One: Bridge humbucker
Position Two: Bridge humbucker with neck single coil, in parallel
Position Three: Bridge and neck humbuckers
Position Four: Neck single coil with bridge single coil, in parallel
Position Five: Neck humbucker

The Standard pattern neck has an in-between nut width of 1-21/32" a fairly slim-ish feel, and a gentle taper up to the 12th fret. The playability was classic PRS: Silky with pleasantly moderate string tension, and nicely finished frets.

We don't run across a lot of PRS, but this is a beautiful piece with a good vibe, excellent workmanship and more character than your garden variety humbucker guitar. Take advantage of this great deal and get to know the PRS family.
