The Rio Grande BBQ Bucker is designed for anyone looking to get the most from the bridge position. We tested it using our Godin Core through the Fender Bassman and it showed a unique combination of power and clarity that is all too rare in bridge position humbuckers. Despite the strong output and midrange content, it produced clean tones that were bright and snappy without becoming harsh in the top end. With full, rounded bass response and percussive clarity, this pickup sounds great with funk-style rhythm playing, chicken pick'in and the like. When you add in some gain, it takes on a rich rock voice that is good for everything from dirty blues to high octane rock and everything in between. For this evaluation we used a hand-wired Emerson Paramount Overdrive. Chords produced a thick crunch with well defined midrange punch and sparkling overtones. Lead runs were pure classic rock, with a creamy texture and shimmering top end clarity. It's been around for years, but the BBQ still impresses. This is a pickup that you don't have to work around. Its versatility and power will breathe life into any rig.
