LR Baggs AEG-1 Natural Acoustic-Electric Guitar w/HiFi Duet System & w/Gig Bag
The LR Baggs AEG-1 Acoustic-Electric guitar is a new and innovative approach to maximizing the sonic performance of amplified acoustic guitars. Ideal for bands, small combos and solo performers the AEG-1 looks very much like a traditional acoustic guitar, but it's construction is optimized for the purpose of superior amplified acoustic tone.
To use an automotive term, the AEG-1 used a poplar plywood "spaceframe" that forms the chassis of the guitar and completely supports the mahogany neck. This leaves the top and back of the guitar to vibrate and resonate freely. This is different from a conventional acoustic guitar in which the top and back are part of the supporting structure. This makes the AEG-1 very resonate and it has very good volume for a thin profile acoustic. If you were listening blindfolded you would not mistake it for a dreadnaught, but it's a pretty good sounding acoustic before it's ever plugged in.
But the point of course is to plug it in, and LR Baggs equips with AEG-1 with their top-of-the-line HiFi Duet dual source system. Utilizing two bridge plate sensors from their HiFi system and their new Silo microphone, the AEG-1 delivers exceptional plugged in performance. Crisp but not brittle, full but never booming, the AEG-1 delivers extremely natural tone with very simple controls. We install lots of HiFi and Anthem systems at our shop, but the performance of the HiFi Duet in a guitar specifically engineered to be amplified is just that much better.
Beyond the electronics the AEG-1 plays like any other acoustic; and unlike some hybrid acoustics the neck is not shaped to feel like an electric guitar. The relatively slim neck profile and 1.7" nut width may feel a touch cramped for finger-style players, but with it's low action and reasonable string tension it will greatly appeal to singer-songwriters and soloists.
There have been hybrid acoustic electric guitars on the market for years. Where the AEG-1 differs is that it's completely engineered from the ground up to excel as an amplified acoustic. It's not just a thinline acoustic with a pickup, or a chambered electric guitar with a piezo. If you are acoustic performer looking for excellent tone, easy playability and non-polarizing looks, the LR Baggs AEG-1 represents a new and exciting option.
Made in Korea, includes nice padded gig bag.
