This Dead On ’58 bass has the woody, resonant, chambered tone that makes Danelectro instruments sound much more substantial than their looks might suggest. And those lipstick pickups—the originals actually used lipstick tubes—have plenty of punch and presence, giving the Longhorn a larger-than-life voice.

The slim-profile Longhorn neck is very nicely finished, and the hourglass headstock shape lets the strings pull straight through the nut for reliable tuning stability. Made in South Korea, Danelectro instruments may look budget, but they are built with a high level of precision and play well above their price point. If quirky but functional is your thing, this is absolutely your bass.
