JAM Pedals Octaurus LTD Octave Fuzz Pedal *Authorized Dealer*

Sometimes the hype lives up to the reality and the new JAM Octaurus Ltd fits that category. Octave pedals are nothing new, and have been part of the soundscape for decades. The JAM Octaurus blends these influences into a hand-wired point-to-point wonder that is remarkably musical and usable in a wide variety of musical genres. The Octaurus works so well because at its core it's an extremely good fuzz/distortion pedal. The voicing switches and clipping modes allow plenty of tonal options and even if there were no octave function it puts out some remarkably tasty crunch from mild to extreme, but never overly harsh, splatty or low-fi.

The octave function -- analog of course and not adjustable for blend -- does not overwhelm the core note and sits somewhere in the background. However, how you set the scoop and clipping toggles will affect the emphasis of the octave note. Some octave pedals tend to sound like "effects" with an over-emphasized high octave that makes it suitable for single note runs only. The Octaurus handles power chords, double stops (and even full chords) extremely well. While this pedal is great for Hendrix fans, if you are fan of Punk Pop like Paramore and Fallout Boy it's a home run. Turning down the guitar volume and somewhat starving the pedal produces sort of a ring mod effect that adds another dimension to the pedal.

Which leads me to comment on the current crop of demo videos out there: They tend to be wildly over the top and don't do justice to the flexibility and available range of the pedal. When used with restraint it adds thickness and dimensionality to many styles of solo work, and as we said holds together on chords in a way we never expected. It's a remarkably well engineered product.

All JAM Ltd pedals are limited and the Octaurus is more limited than most. We highly recommend it.

In the words of JAM Pedals....

Inspired by the octafuzz tones from the golden era of guitar music, the Octaurus ltd is not looking to emulate but rather build on this rich lineage while claiming its place as one of the finest examples of the genre out there. Identifying our favourite behavioural attributes scattered across many different legendary octafuzzes of the past, our mission was to find a way to bring them all together in a single standalone device.

It is a tour de force of vintage sound and feel.

The intricate turret-based point-to-point construction is designed around a batch of early 60s NOS silicon transistors either made by Transitron or General Instrument or both, similar to 2N335/336, complementing the Octaurus ltd's unique tonal character.

In the style of previous Custom Shop limited edition pedals, the Octaurus ltd comes embossed in fine olive drab suede, and features a see-through bottom plate also wrapped in suede with the addition of a zip, to provide safe and easy visual access to the beautifully laid out board inside.

Sonic Features:
  • A clear apparent octave across all pickup positions.
  • Retain your notes' "body" all the way across your guitar's register
  • When you clean it up using your guitar's volume knob, get just the right amount of the ring-mod type effect while still being able to play most double stops and have the fundamental intervals pop out.
  • Overdrive-like definition of open power-chords without compromising tightness or girth.
  • Full range voicing option for a singing fuzz quality
  • Scooped-mids option for more industrial fuzz feel, suitable for tight riffing and an even more pronounced octave effect.
  • Symmetrical clipping option for tightness and definition
  • Asymmetrical clipping option for looser, more dynamic feel
