Introducing the latest haunting echo from the halls of Keeley Electronics: the Caverns Delay-Reverb (Version 2!) This aptly named pedal is designed to be the one-two punch of ethereal support at the end of your pedal board. On one side you get Keeley's famous Magnetic Tape Echo circuit with switchable wow and flutter modes, and three different types of lush reverb on the other. The Caverns offers the best in analog echo tonality with simple controls and a never ending palette of ambiance.
The heart of the Caverns is Keeley's Magnetic Echo circuit. Whether you're playing single note lines, double stops or chords the low end stays fat and warm while the mids and highs retain glassy harmonics. The repeats and decay sound truly old school and the three way toggle switch lets you add modulation to the repeats to simulate wow and flutter. "Wow" and "flutter" are the sounds that real tape echoes developed as the tape stretched around the machine heads. This was most noticeable on the repeats as they further degraded. The Mag Echo uses the a chorus effect inspired by his Seafoam pedal to produce the pitchy "wow" and a Rate knob for "flutter" or speed fluctuations that occurred on tape machines that weren't running perfectly (which due to their complicated design and constant upkeep was most of the time). How's that for authentic?
Spring Mode – Black Face Amp style spring reverb with F Style Tremolo.
Modulation Mode – Choral modulation to the reverb for a huge, cavernous reverb.
Shimmer Mode – Reverb with emphasis on octave-up voices in reverb trails
Using the other mini-toggle switch you can choose three different reverb types on the Caverns. The spring reverb sounds very authentic and could easily become an "always on" setting if you normally run through a dry amp. The other two modes are what truly gives this pedal it's name. The chorus modulated reverb is a rich echo effect that can emulate sounds of endless space. The shimmer reverb is a unique octave-up trail that is reminiscent of the droning organ sound of Keeley's "Fugue" reverb. Combined with the natural decay of the tape echo, each of the reverb settings can create a virtual sonic landscape that can find a home in any genre.
From subtle delay and reverb techniques to Lost in Space acid trips, the Keeley Caverns pedal covers the bases.
