Solodallas BASS-X Schaffer Replica Pedal *Authorized Dealer*

The Solodallas Bass-X bass pedal is designed to bring the "Angus Tone" to your bass guitar. Essentially a re-calibrated version of the Solodallas Storm guitar pedal optimized for bass, the Bass-X can give you fuller, fatter bass tones and/or act as a boost pedal to drive your your amp. So what is the backstory of Solodallas?

The Schaffer wireless system was developed in the 70's, and used some ingenious compression and expansion techniques to boost the dynamic range of the transmitted signal to well over 100 dB (this is before any modern wireless technology). This "companding" circuit plus line buffering created impressive dynamics and clarity. With the addition of both input and output level controls, guitarists discovered that the Schaffer transmitter could also act like a signal boost. Bingo! It may have been a wireless transmitter, but guitarists loved what it did to their tone...and one of those guitarists was Angus Young.

The controls are simple, and have not changed from the guitar pedal:

Gain - The gain control varies the level of compression/expansion effect and does raise the volume level as you turn it clockwise. It's the level for the secret TSR sauce
Boost - This regulates the total output volume from below unity to high levels that can be used to overdrive your amp
Snap - Acts as an overall limiter. Run it at low levels and there is more natural attack, more bite, and little crisper edge. At higher (clockwise) levels the sound is smoother more compressed. It's also fatter, and using a combination of gain and snap can create some monstrous bass tones.
Uses 9V - Tip negative power input (same as most 9V pedals)

The Bass-X can be used at the end of the signal chain where it will also act as a buffer, or it can be placed first to drive other pedals -- such as overdrives -- even harder. Leave it on all the time as a signal conditioner and enhancer, or use it as a boost. It's hard to go wrong with the Bass-X.
