Keeley Electronics Monterey Rotary Fuzz Vibe Guitar Workstation

Introducing the Keeley Monterey Workstation a.k.a the Jimi Box. This pedal contains all of the signature effects including Rotary speaker, Fuzz, Vibe, Octave, and harmonic wah. The sounds are authentic but are designed to work with one another to create new and innovative voices. Whether you're a Jimi purist or just looking to spice up your rig, the Monterey will make it POP.

The Monterey Workstation is another impressive multi-effects pedal from Keeley Electronics that delivers vintage tones in a modern format. The name and the beautiful paint job are inspired by Jimi's first American performance: The Monterey Pop Festival in 1967. Jimi's guitar sounded utterely space-age back when pedals and effects were in their infancy; so Keeley started from scratch re-creating these effects to be true to their original form, while leaving room for today's players. There are two sides to the Monterey: Fuzz and Modulation, and you can even switch the order of the circuits with a push button on top of the unit. In addition to that there is an expression jack for precise control of the mod effects. Here's the breakdown:

Fuzz (right):

The fuzz on the Monterey is rich and super dynamic thanks to the two transistor design. Unlike most modern fuzzes the Monterey uses Fairchild transistors which have modest gain compared to the typical Germanium units. This produces a smooth tone that lets your natural signal shine and bites hard as soon as you dig in.

Modulation (Left):

Rotary - Two voices simulate the bass speaker and treble horn from a Leslie Cabinet for that vintage swirl of chorus/tremolo. The sound is more harmonic than many rotary sims, and the chorus effect is very clean, almost like a doubling effect. If you want to give your rotary some attitude simply dial in the fuzz for natural breakup or crushing overdrive. The octave control on the Rotary setting controls the level of the "treble horn" letting you control the amount of high end shimmer in your speaker cabinet.

Vibe - By combining phaser and tremolo effects at certain frequencies the vibe setting creates great harmonic detail.

Octave control - Center for no octave, left for Octave Down and right for Octave up. The low octave produces a very cool synth style sound and the high octave can function as a chorus/doubling effect or classic Octavia.

Wah - The wah setting has a few different functions based on the depth control. With the depth all the way off it becomes a "normal" wah pedal. This means you can connect an expression pedal and use it normally or use the rate control to select which frequency is boosted. As you turn the depth knob up it becomes an auto-wah where the effect opens up based on how hard you pick the string. Once you get past noon on the depth knob it becomes Keeley's "Harmonic Wah". It functions like the old tremolo circuits on brownface amps, but the frequencies are centered around the wah. This simulates the wah pedal rocking back and forth at a fixed rate.

Octave control - Center for no octave, left for Octave Down and right for Octave up. The low octave produces a very cool synth style sound and the high octave can function as a chorus/doubling effect or classic Octavia.

The Wrap - Jimi hounds will for certain dig the Monterey, but its application stretches way beyond that. The combination of fuzz, wah, octave and other modulation techniques is the perfect toy box for the imaginative guitarist. Take your own trip with Keeley Monterey.
