Walrus Audio Eons Five-State Fuzz Pedal

Ho Hum, another fuzz pedal you say? One of the original guitar effects, fuzz pedals have been around....we for eons since someone decided to clip a transistor or saturate and op amp. But if you think it's all been done, the new EONS fuzz pedal by Walrus might just make you look again. While multi-state pedals are all the rage these days the Walrus EONS has some innovative features that give it a leg up on the competition and may even win over some non-fuzz lovers.

Let's start with the lightening bolt control which is a internal voltage divider that can change the operating voltage from 3 to 18 volts. This has a significant effect on each of the various fuzz states, affecting low end response, tightness/sag, and the glitchy/splatty nature when you want some real lo-fi fun. It affects the different fuzz positions in different ways, greatly expanding the tweak-ability of the pedal.

Next up are individual bass and treble controls. Lots happens when you turn up the gain on a fuzz pedal, and splitting up the typical "tone" control allows you to tame the low or high end separately. This can make the difference between finding a fuzz tone "interesting" or finding it really useful in your tone toolkit. Fuzz pedals in general can be finicky, and having real EQ is more than just a good idea.

Everybody has a distortion or overdrive pedal on their board (or many) but may struggle to find real estate for a fuzz. The Walrus EONS takes the fuzz from a one-song trick in your set list to something you'll go back to time and time again.

In the words of Walrus Audio:

Eons is a five-state fuzz capable of massively thick sounds ready to test the limits of any amp's grill cloth. Use the Voltage (lightning bolt) knob to crank up to 18 volts into the pedal's circuit for massive, open fuzz sounds, or choose to starve it down to 3 volts for spatty, gated fuzz.

For Eons, man has thought the sound of thunder to be from the heavens above, echoing boastfully over us as we stay safe from its greatness. However, legend tells of a stoic and indomitable beast residing in the highest mountains seen and heard only by the most brash of travelers. With gnarled and twisted horns, this creature emits a sound thicker than Earth's crust to command attention and warn all who stand in his way. This is Eons.

Experiment with the Voltage and Mode knobs for nearly endless styles of fuzz tones. Find vintage-inspired sounds emanating from the stages of Woodstock to chaotic three-chord punk rock. Eons is ready for a fight.

The Eons features a five-position rotary knob that offers the following clipping configurations. Think of them as different "flavors" of the pedal:

I. Silicon clipping traditional fuzz that's well rounded with a huge sound; compressed and smooth.

II. Silicon clipping with an added bass boost that boosts the low end at the beginning of the circuit; compressed and crunchy.

III. Germanium clipping with a feel of "what if a distortion and fuzz had a kid?"; crunchy and dynamic.

IV. LED clipping diodes with a slight high-end cut; dynamically dark.

V. Hard clipping silicon transistors combined with LED and Silicon soft clipping diodes. The rowdiest of the modes with tons of gain: compressed, loud, and angry.

  • 9V DC, center negative, 100mA min – 2.62 x 4.77 x 2.25 inches including knobs.
