For such a deceptively simple instrument, players and builders have been chasing ultimate Tele tone for decades. There seems to be no end to incarnations of Tele pickups, but for the Porter Standard Tele set Porter has gone back to the basics.

The Standard Tele set uses Alnico 3 magnets, which are weakest of the commonly used Alnico magnet formulations for guitar pickups. The low string pull of Alnico 3 has a softer attack, a warm response and glassy highs. You'll get that round, bell-like Tele neck tone that compresses slightly when you dig in, and bridge tones that have twang and bite without sounding harsh and edgy. Give them some overdrive and you'll find lingering harmonics, good sustain and tasty grit. And the brass bass plate adds increased low end response.
