G&L SB-2 Clear Orange Okoume Bass with G&L gig bag *Authorized Dealer*

The G&L SB-2 is Leo Fender's (The "L" in G&L is for Leo Fender) classic P-Bass shape updated and upgraded with two dynamic Magnetic Field Design (MFD) pickups, sturdy six-bolt neck, and a hefty saddle lock bridge. Now standard with the "tone mod" option (global tone control) we also opted for an Okoume body for warm, punchy tones, and a 1.5" nut width "JB" style neck.

G&L's MFD pickup design utilizes a low resistance coil with a strong ceramic magnet and individual steel pole pieces. The low resistance (inductance) broadens the frequency response and the the strong magnetic field provides ample output. The MFD bass pickups have what all MFD pickups are known for: Great clarity, sensitivity and exceptional dynamic range. The MFD’s invite exploration, and there is a broad spectrum of usable tones from mellow vintage, to bright funky slap, or rumbling growl. For 2024 G&L made the "tone mod" option standard, effectively creating a JB-style V-V-T arrangement. This provides an easy high-end adjustment without altering with pickup balance.

What is Okoume? Okoume is a plentiful African hardwood that while not actually of the Mahogany species, has a similar grain pattern and reddish hue. Compared to Mahogany it tends to be lighter in weight and it also just happens to look great under Clear Orange. As with Mahogany, Okoume has a full, warm midrange but with better high end response and detail. It pairs well with the dynamic nature of the MDF pickups, creating a great combination of bite, warmth and detail. 

For this particular SB-2, we selected G&L's 1-1/2" nut width Medium C neck option (8NK). We love the feel of the narrower "JB" style neck for its comfortable spacing and easy playability. Gone is the "Caribbean Rosewood" of a couple years ago, and Indian Rosewood is once again a no-cost option. The Plek machine is also back in use at the G&L factory, and while fret issues on any USA G&L are a rarity, the Plek process adds an extra measure of consistency. 

Like all G&L bass guitars, you also get hand-wired full sized pots, a sturdy six-bolt neck, lightweight aluminum peg tuning keys, and G&L's hefty machined saddle lock bridge. The saddle lock set screw clamps the saddles together for better sustain and fewer sympathetic vibrations.

The G&L SB-2 is deceptively simple, but extremely flexible. While traditional in looks, the MFD pickups give the SB-2 a modern edge that can be snappy and driving, or dialed back for clean springy tones that are great for jazz or fusion.
