USED G&L Legacy Silver Metallic
Here is a sharp G&L Legacy finished in G&L's not-so-common Silver Metallic. Leo Fender started G&L in 1980 to continue the evolution of his most famous designs, which continues today on Fender Avenue in Fullerton, California. The Legacy feature meaningful improvements such as G&L's Dual Fulcrum Vibrato, and Passive Bass and Treble controls. Respecting the past but not stuck in it, the G&L Legacy is a classic instrument for the ages.
This is an excellent condition late model G&L with one finish nick as shown in photos. Comes complete with original case, certificate and build sheet.
This USA custom order Legacy features:
- Silver Metallic finish on Alder, 7.8 pounds
- G&L 'Modern Classic' neck profile, 9.5" radius, 1-11/16" nut
- .820" Depth at the 1st fret, .870" at the 12th
- Satin finish maple neck w/Caribbean Rosewood fretboard
- 3-Ply white pickguard
- DF Vibrato bridge
- (3) G&L Alnico single coil pickups
- 5-way switch, volume, treble and bass controls
- Locking tuners
- Plek® laser guided fret finishing
- G&L hardshell case
You don't see too many G&L's in Silver Metallic, which is a surprise as it looks really good on the Legacy. And the light brown hue of the Caribbean Rosewood fretboard is also a nice match. Also known as Chechen, Caribbean Rosewood is a Central American hardwood with very similar hardness and feel to Indian Rosewood. It's a nice alternative to increasingly restricted Rosewood, and to us has no downsides. For the body, Alder is the classic material for this type of guitar, and complements the single coil pickups nicely. With firm midrange punch and a moderate top end, alder provides good sonic support for lower wind pickups, and keeps them from sounding overly thin and bright.
The G&L Legacy is equipped with (3) G&L Alnico V flat pole pickups that are wound in the low 6K-ohm range. This correlates to an early 60's specification, and while not as glassy as the later 60's CBS-era pickups, they have a little more kick and a less edgy nature. While not by any means a high output pickup, they have sufficient midrange content to drive distortion pedals nicely and produce fat chunky blues tones. The neck and middle pickups have a bouncy, percussive low end with a classically scooped middle, and clean highs. It's the definitive Strat® sound straight off your favorite blues album.
The moderate output of the G&L single coils responds nicely to pedals and distortion. Under mild gain settings, the tones are wonderfully expressive. There is nice harmonic complexity in the high end, and chewy bottom end tones that start out dirty but clean up as they decay; perfect for blues players who like a little hair on their notes. Add more gain and the Legacy thickens up, and is more rock-ready than you'd expect, with chunky mids and crystalline overtones.
In relation to tonal capabilities, the G&L DF Vibrato is always noteworthy. Rather than relying on a few springs and wood screws, it is an improved design that has the bridge floating on two adjustable hardened steel studs mounted in large brass body anchors. This type of floating mechanism allows the player to bend notes upward or downward with complete confidence that the guitar will stay securely in tune. Paired with the versatile Legacy pickups, there are endless possibilities for soaring sound creations.
The G&L Legacy is more than just a copy of an original. For a very reasonable street price you get the type of fit, finish, hardware, and high quality electronics that makes a guitar feel crafted, not just assembled. Whether you are a pro or serious hobbyist, the G&L Legacy is a guitar that won't let you down.
