Z G&L Fallout Emerald Blue Frost

Avoid Sonic Redundancy in your guitar collection: The G&L Fallout gives players a serious alternative to the typical choices for high quality electric guitars. By combining their own excellent in-house P-90 and Humbucker pickups you get a fresh sonic option that won't sound like all your other guitars. Covered in a frosted Emerald Blue finish this Fallout is a new age beauty with an old soul.

This USA Fallout features the following:

  • Emerald Blue Metallic Frost finish on Alder, 7 pounds
  • Scraped wood binding
  • G&L Slim C neck profile - 1-5/8" nut with 12" fingerboard radius
  • .820" depth first fret, .870" depth at the 12th
  • Clear finish satin neck
  • Rosewood fingerboard upgrade
  • G&L split and drilled tuners
  • 3-ply Parchment pickguard
  • G&L P-90 neck pickup
  • G&L AW4470B humbucker bridge pickup
  • Black pickup covers
  • 3-way pickup switch
  • Volume and tone controls
  • Pull-tone control to split bridge pickups
  • G&L non-compression truss rod
  • Deluxe Tolex hardshell case made in the USA

The Fallout is one of Leo Fender's "other" shapes uses the same body as the SC-2. While it gives the impression of being a "junior" guitar, it's actually the same length as the Legacy. The slightly narrower waist gives it a compact appearance, and the fully contoured body is super comfortable. This Fallout features a nice optional Rosewood fingerboard, and the Emerald Blue satin finish looks sleek and hides smudges and fingerprints even on a hot summer night.

If you are not familiar with the P-90 pickup, G&L's own P-90 is a great introduction to this particular design. Originally developed by Gibson in the late 40's the P-90 is known for punchy tone and a strong mids. However, wind them for too much output, and they can get dull and one-dimensional. Not a problem here; and with a mid-6K DC resistance G&L's P-90 has both excellent clarity and more midrange heft than the typical Fender-style single coil. Given some overdrive, the P-90 thickens up and takes on a somewhat creamy tone, but without the woody or mushy feel that you sometimes get with a humbucker. We are fans of P-90's, and this particular version deserves a spot in your guitar lineup. It's a great pickup for when you want "more" but still want to hear all the details.

At the bridge, the G&L AW4470 Alnico Humbucker uses Alnico magnets, and 7000 turns of 44 gage wire. This is G&L's answer to the venerable Seymour Duncan JB, which was previously standard equipment on the Fallout. Compared to the Seymour Duncan JB, the G&L AW4470B has a bit more midrange warmth and a smoother high end that's not quite as sharp and metallic as the JB. The G&L "AW" has a full-bodied tone without the over-emphasized midrange bump of many hot humbuckers. The full, balanced response of this pickup is very pedal-friendly, and overdrive tones are tight, crunchy with lots of harmonic detail and lingering overtones.

Both pickups together produce the bell-like clean rhythm tones often associated with this combination. The sound is Tele like, but a little fatter, and with slightly less edge. Percussive and snappy without being fatiguing, it's got a little bit of a Gretsch or Rickenbacker twang that works well for country, roots rock and lush rhythm strumming.

If you've never had a P-90 guitar, the Fallout is a great introduction to one of rock's most underrated pickups. Combined with the humbucker bridge pickup you get a one-two punch that is surprisingly versatile, and a clean break from the strat/tele paradigm.
