z G&L ASAT Bass Purple Burst Frost Wood Binding w/Gig Bag *Authorized Dealer*
G&L's satin frost top coat is a great look that enhances many of their finishes. And G&L's new Purple Burst finish turns out to be another satin winner, and the no-pickguard look of the ASAT bass really shows it off. Plus we added the optional scraped wood binding to add a little contrast. The ASAT bass melds Leo's famous Tele shape with G&L's flexible passive/active electronics and full range MFD pickups. With the smooth response of a contoured Swamp Ash body and sleek JB-neck profile, the ASAT Bass is an eye-catching, easy playing tone machine.

With such a wide range of control options, just about every classic bass guitar sound resides somewhere inside the ASAT Bass. G&L's MFD pickup design harmoniously combines strong output with a wide and balanced frequency response. Combined with both bass and treble controls (with active or passive mode) there is tremendous sonic flexibility. So let's start with the three position pickup selector:
The neck pickup is mellow with a round full bass that somewhat sonically mimics a P-bass tone, but with more enhanced midrange. The MFD bridge has a good bit of twang and treble response, and the combination is still warm but with more definition and string separation. In addition to the 3-way pickup selector you also have the optional 3-way "Single Coil Mode" switch instead of the normal 2-position series/parallel switch
Series Mode - Fat, meaty tones with an accentuated midrange growl that still have plenty of articulation, especially when using a pick. Just the ticket for hard driving rock, punk and heavier styles
Single Coil - Our favorite setting; snappy and poppy like a JB with nice string definition and upper end clarity without being sharp. Good position for slap and funk.
Lastly, all of the above options are available in passive mode, active mode, or active with a high end EQ boost. The difference between active and passive is not dramatic, but active mode is a little crisper with a slightly quicker attack and more responsive tone controls. Neither is "better" and it is easy to dial in great sounds with either. More than anything else the selection of active or passive may come down to what type of amplifier you are using.
The neck on this ASAT bass is what they call their 'Modern Narrow' profile. It has a 1.5" width at the nut and 9.5" radius, which places it in J-bass territory. It is a comfortable C shape that is easy to navigate and the 9.5 inch radius works for a wide range of playing styles.
While the ASAT bass balances nicely on the shoulder, the unique "Tele" shape is different in terms of most bass guitars. G&L thoughtfully provides two different strap button locations at the bottom of the guitar to allow the option of two different balance points. For gigging or studio work, the ASAT Bass offers out-of-the-box looks, and a vast array of tonal options.
