This like new (really is new) ASAT Classic Alnico was finished in November 2024 and became the subject of a number of pickup tests at the shop (Duncan Bonnamassa Broadcaster pickups, among others). Keeping with the Broadcaster theme, we had this ASAT body made with Western Sugar Pine (Pine preceeded Alder) and a thicker profile neck (G&L C+ neck). And because we always think that G&L's vintage tint could be darker, we had our local finishing whiz apply a darker tint to the quarter sawn maple neck.

Currently the guitar has a Duncan Lari Basilio signature middle pickup in the neck. The open top eliminates the capacitive load of the cover, and it uses Alnico 5 magnets on the low strings for attack, and Alnico 2 under the plain strings for smoothness. It has enough Tele tone to sound authentic, but a greater helping of bite and clarity that resolves the most common gripe about the neck position. In the bridge we have the great sounding Brad Paisely LaBrea Alnico 4 bridge pickup. The smoothness and balance of Alnico 4 provides plenty of twant and attack, but with a sweeter top end than most tele pickups. Lastly we dropped in an Emerson Custom Tele 4-way wiring assembly to get the neck+bridge series option. And if you want to put it back to original, the G&L Alnico pickups -- not too shabby by any measure -- are included.
