Fresh from the G&L Custom Shop is this one-of-a-kind ASAT Classic in Redburst. With its highly figured quilted maple top and pickguard delete option, you get to see all that wavy maple in all its glory. And it's a good look. Featuring G&L's Magnetic Field Design pickups, the ASAT Classic punches out classic T-style tones with greater fidelity, output and superb pedal performance

G&L's Custom Shop is where you can take your favorite G&L model and color outside the lines to create something unique and personal. Maple tops have been used for years for their cosmetic appeal, and to liven up a darker sounding instrument. But while punchy and bright, the tone of Maple is not particularly complex. Here is where Swamp Ash comes to the rescue and is our favorite wood for the ASAT Classic MFD's. Swamp Ash scoops the mids slightly and adds detail and complexity to the top end. All together the combination is a guitar that is clear and responsive, but not one-dimensional.

The satin finish maple neck is quarter sawn, meaning the the grain of the wood is perpendicular to the fretboard. This adds stiffness and stability to the neck, and some feel a little extra snap and note response. The Ebony fretboard is atypical for this type of guitar, but the dense and smooth ebony surface is a breeze to play. As with any Custom Shop guitar the fretwork glistens, and the Modern Classic profile blends G&L's slim profile with a 1-11/16" nut for for a speedy-but-tradtional feel.

Also in the comfort department are front and back body contours, which help save a little weight and allows the body to sit more comfortably on the player. If you like the general contours of a Strat, the double contour ASAT is very appealing. Even with the contours G&L is able to add their handsome scraped wood binding. There are videos of this on Youtube showing how they do this. And all I can say is that you don't do this after three cups of coffee.

In terms of cosmetics, there is no reason not to lust after this guitar, and G&L's MFD pickups give you the option of traditional T-style tones -- and it should since the ASAT is also Leo Fender's design -- with the flexibility and output to transition to rock, blues, and even some pretty hard stuff. If you can do all that and look this good, why not?
