G&L ASAT Classic Thinline 2-Tone Goldburst Limited Edition 2022 Electric w/ Gig Bag *Authorized Dealer*

This is a limited edition model that is out of production and no longer being offered. It's available here at a special savings.

On hiatus since 2017, the ASAT Classic Thinline is back! Limited to only 25 guitars each in two finishes, this stylish semi-hollow ASAT is back for an encore. Featuring Leo Fender’s Magnetic Field Design pickups, the ASAT Classic has plenty of classic cluck, twang and sparkle but with more modern output, clarity, and flexibility. With its lightweight chambered body and exclusive 2-Tone Goldburst finish the ASAT Classic Thinline is deceptively simple yet devilishly flexible,

This limited-edition ASAT Classic Thinline features:

  • Two Tone Goldburst chambered Alder body, 6.6 pounds
  • Modern Classic neck, 9.5" radius, 1-11/16 nut width
  • Clear satin finish hard rock maple neck
  • Satin clear maple fretboard
  • Medium jumbo frets
  • G&L split and drilled tuners
  • 3-ply black pickguard
  • “Ashtray” 6-saddle bridge assembly
  • G&L MFD ASAT bridge pickup
  • G&L MFD neck pickup
  • Volume and tone controls
  • Padded G&L gig bag
  • Made in Fullerton, CA

Why choose semi-hollow? If weight is a factor, the chambered body certainly helps, and this guitar clocks in under 7 pounds. The semi-hollow construction also provides a nice resonance, and we think a little more balanced response across the spectrum. Semis tend to lose a bit of bass response – at least with Swamp Ash – but we found the Alder construction to have ample low end and a nice throaty bass. How much “semi-hollow” sound comes through the amp is debatable, but we liked the overall depth of tone and especially the richness of the neck pickup.

If you are new to G&L’s their most unique feature is Leo Fender’s Magnetic Field Design (MFD) pickup. The MFD design uses a low resistance coil and fairly strong ceramic magnet. It will punch through the mix much better than a traditional Tele pickup with less compression and better clarity. But roll it off a little and the softer, more bell-like Tele tone emerges. It's vintage in nature, but much more usable in the context of a band setting.

G&L's ASAT MFD bridge pickup was Leo Fender's take on improving his classic bridge pickup (which was originally lifted from his pedal steel guitars). It's got all those twangy, chewy vintage flavors packed in there but with more body, output, and fewer sharp edges. Add some gain and this pickup becomes an awesome classic rock machine with surprising power. It's truly a great lead pickup; harmonic, crunchy, with great touch sensitivity and rock-ability. The MFD pickups stretch the limits of what you can expect with this type of guitar, without heavily compromising traditional tones.

G&L’s Modern Classic neck profile blends a slightly wider nut width with G&L's Slim C profile, and a 9.5" radius fretboard. The wider nut reduces the chance of string falloff, and the slimmer profile and 9.5" radius keeps the extra width from feeling cumbersome. Standard on G&L’s since 2015, it’s their most popular profile by far.

If you are searching for a lightweight guitar that can really rock, or just love the look of the Thinline design, it’s great to have the ASAT Thinline available again. Quantities are limited, so don’t let the opportunity pass you by.
