This Godin Dorchester Bass features:
Even in the grand Godin mix of electric hybrids, nylons, acoustics and solid bodies, the Godin Dorchester is a true palette cleanser. Stylistically they nailed the "retro" category while making sure it's not something you would expect your great uncle to pull out of storage. One of Godin's sister brands Richmond produced the original Dorchester which was a semi-hollow electric guitar that borrowed heavily from the legendary Mosrite design. Dropping the octave and mixing in a touch of Rickenbacker aesthetic, Godin created an incredibly fun shorty bass that doesn't skimp on playability or tone.
The short scale bass format and it lower string tension makes it a natural for guitar players, or players with smaller hands. The shorter string length is typically associated with a more woody "thumpy" sound (think Jack Bruce and the Gibson EB series basses) but the Dorchester will surprise you with its wide ranges of tones.
The pickups on the Dorchester are jumbo dog-ear P-90 pickups with magnets you could fry an egg on. They are in fact bass versions of Godin's Kingpin P-90 pickups from the 5th Avenue series, so they are designed to maximize tonal warmth without sacrificing clarity. Both pickups offer snappy single coil tones that have percussive low end, rich midrange and sweet high end thanks to the semi-hollow body construction.
The 30" short scale neck is rock maple with a Rosewood fretboard. The profile is a comfortable C shape with a fairly slim 1.5" nut and flat 12" radius for speedy fretwork. No matter what kind of player you are, the Dorchester provides a look, feel and sound that can find a space in any musical arsenal, and at a great price. We are an authorized Godin dealer and this is a new guitar with all tags, tools, paperwork and certificates.
