Initially launched as part of our Kala Elite USA Series, this new creation draws inspiration from its namesake. This ukulele is built using all solid mahogany top, back and sides with cream binding and rosette. It’s easy to see where this ukulele gets its name. Its ‘Salt & Pepper’ look is created through a unique finish process. The grains of the wood are filled before the wood is sealed and given a gloss finish.

Created for Players who want an instrument as unique as their music, the Salt & Pepper Doghair Mahogany Series features a distincitive two-tone finish reminiscent of vintage guitars. This Ukulele pairs striking aesthetics with the warm balanced tone of Mahogany, making them a standout chouce for stage and studio.

Solid wood is in essence one solid pieces of wood that make up the body of the instrument. It is the most resonant and pure form of the tonewood and requires much more finesse to assemble. However the wood is meant to sound — whatever unique tones the instrument might have — it will be most apparent in a solid wood instrument, and they will mature in look and tone over time.

Mahogany has a very warm and woody sound. Unlike rosewood it has a higher mid-range tone although it isn’t necessarily bright. Mahogany is best for players searching for a very clear and direct sound with not a lot of overtones. This can be very advantageous in a recording environment.
