Schecter Aaron Marshall AM-6 Satin Royal Sapphire Electric Guitar - No Bag/Case

The Schecter Aaron Marshall Signature AM-6 guitar is a feature-packed instrument with a wide range of personalities. Featuring stainless steel frets, compound radius roasted Maple neck, top quality hardware and excellent fit and finish, the AM-6 is a dream guitar at a very approachable price.

Spend a little bit of time listening to Aaron Marshall and his project Intervals and it becomes quickly apparent that he's not just another typical prog shredder. His influences, tones and styles are diverse, dynamic and theatrical. And his signature AM-6 is am excellent accomplice to these ends. At first glance the ergonomics, 24 fret compound radius roasted neck and rock solid hardware are tailor made for guitar pyrotechnics. All this makes the AM-6 a joy to play regardless of musical influences, and it's a guitar that does not need to be modded to reach it's potential. But what really impressed us is the range of tones that emanate from the AM-6.

While Schecter is not specific about what exactly the 5-way pickup switch does, it's key to the wide range of tones available on the AM-6. It's not the typical 3-way with a couple split positions. What we think it's doing is this from back to front:

1 - Bridge pickup humbucker
2 - Neck + split Bridge
3 - Neck and Bridge humbucker in parallel
4 - Neck pickup parallel
5 - Neck pickup humbucker

The neck pickup by itself is clean and defined with excellent articulation and clarity. And besides keeping the weight down, Basswood produces a tone similar to Alder but with a more even frequency response and less coloration. The bridge pickup bumps up the midrange emphasis and overall output, but not to the point of becoming overly stiff or lacking in dynamics and detail. It's a rock pickup, but with a nuanced personality. The "bonus" positions 2 and 4 creates some great clean single coil-ish tones that are much more rich and expressive than the typical split humbucker can muster. Most split humbuckers are merely "meh" in terms of tone, but whatever they've cooked up on the AM-6 these are positions worth playing....often.

The AM-6 clearly has the ability to dish out tight and articulate progressive rock, even at lower tunings. But strip away the gain and distortion, and the fundamental core tones of the AM-6 are extremely compelling. If you were thrown into a situation where you had to play pop, funk, fusion and metal, the AM-6 would be your best friend.
