Schecter Nick Johnston Signature PT Atomic Ink Electric Guitar - No Bag/Case Included *Authorized Dealer*

The Schecter Diamond Series of guitars have always impressed us as remarkably well finished given their price point. With premium features such as a roasted maple neck, locking tuners, Graph Tech nut and excellent fit and finish, the Schecter Nick Johnston Signature PT is a traditionally styled T-style guitar that punches well above its weight.

Stylistically, the Nick Johnston PT has a classic understated look but with modern touches. The full-thickness un-contoured body is not a feather, but if you are used to a Les Paul, it's really no big deal. The vintage C shape neck is firmly in the the "medium" range, and measures approx. .790" at the first fret and .860" at the 12th. The roasted neck is a nice touch, and the 22 jumbo frets and 14" radius neck provide modern playability.

The chrome covered neck pickup is very much in the mold of a Duncan Seth Lover with an overall warm character, smooth top end and rounded lows. Give it a little presence boost at the amp and it will cop some very nice blues tones,  and given some gain it takes on a creamy vocal quality. There is a pull tap for the neck pickup, but to us split humbuckers are a mixed bag on their own, and it sounds best paired with the bridge pickup.

The bridge pickup is suitably twangy without being overly sharp on the top end. That's probably a function of the pickup as well as being bolted to a generous chunk of Alder. It's got plenty of snap when finger picking, and like a lot of T-style pickups is very pedal friendly. So why is a prog-guy like Nick Johnston putting his name on clearly vintage style guitars? Because some of the best and most expressive tones come from using moderate output pickups and letting the pedal or amp do the work. There is much more control and nuance than slamming the amp with a super hot pickup.

Nick Johnston is a very impressive player, and his signature PT is a very impressive guitar. For a value-priced T-style guitar that can range from country to prog, it is very hard to beat.
