Schecter PT Fastback Gold Top Electric Guitar - No Bag/Case Included *Authorized Dealer*
The Schecter PT Fastback capitalizes on the popular Tele/Tron combination of T-Style body with FilterTron humbucking pickups. With appointments unusual at this price range such as neck binding and block inlays, the PT Fastback combines classic 'Tron tones in an very stylish package.
Kudos to Schecter for building an affordable guitar with true FilterTron sized pickups. Often lower priced guitars have "Faux-Trons" which are full-sized humbuckers with 'Tron style covers. The tighter coil spacing and split top cover make the 'Tron design a different animal compared to the typical humbucker. FilterTrons are brighter, have more twang and plenty of bite, which makes them great for roots, pop and rockabilly. But the smaller bobbins can only take so many windings, and you might need to goose your amp a little more to match the output of other guitars. Once you do you'll find 'Trons to be very lively and responsive with a great lo-fi crunch when pushed. The FilterTorn tone sits somewhere between the single coil and PAF-sized 'buckers. Schecter does include coil taps by pulling up the tone controls for each pickup. But FilterTrons tend to lose a good bit of output when split. This works OK when both pickups are on in a split/full mix, but the pickups are at their best operating as nature intended.
The Diamond Series guitars are known as great players, and the PT Fastback is no exception. Fit and finish is top-of-class for the price range, the fret work is nicely polished and even, its got good quality hardware, and the body is nicely contoured including the neck heel. While "you can't have it all" at this price range, it's impressive what $700 will get you in a new guitar. For new players looking for a quality instrument or experienced players looking for a low-cost entry into the 'Tron tone, the Schecter PT Fastback is an excellent value
