For 2025 Schecter is releasing a number of new signature guitars from the guitar duo of Avenge Sevenfold. And just released at the end of February are the Synyster Gates headless models, available in both 6 and 7-string versions. With a host of high quality features, top notch hardware and the addictive Sustainiac system, the Synyster Gates Custom-6 TR-S is sure to be a hit with hard rock fans of all stripes.

If you've not played a headless before, the first impression is that they feel heavy. But that's an illusion because all the weight is in just one place. This particular TR-S weighs 7.8 pounds, quite typical for any solid body. The thin 24-fret neck with 16" radius ebony fretboard plays effortlessly and the stainless steel jumbo frets provide a highly polished low friction playing experience. While few people are likely to ask "how are the clean tones" they are actually pretty good and the pickups are not overly dark or closed-sounding in their clean state. Naturally, high gain tones are where this guitar is meant to live, and the chambered Mahogany body with Maple center provides plenty of natural sustain. And if that's not enough sustain, there is always the Sustainiac system. The Sustainiac essentially works like a pickup in reverse, exciting string vibrations to make the guitar endlessly sustain. There is a toggle to turn the Sustainiac on and off, and another three-position toggle to select peak resonant sustain frequencies. If you can't have fun with a Sustainiac, then you've forgotten how to have fun at all. But aside from it's shear addictive nature, the Sustainiac allows endless dramatic bends, ringing chords, and haunting feedback-like effects. 

Once you get used to the ergonomics and balance of a headless, they practically feel like a part of you. You don't have to be an Avenge Sevenfold fan to like this guitar, and for rock and progressive players the TR-S is an extremely well constructed and thought out guitar.
