Seagull is by far the most well known acoustic brand under the Godin family name. Back in 1982 Robert Godin started building the first Seagull's in La Patrie, Quebec and managed to create a community of artisans focused on creating sustainable, high quality guitars for hobbyists and working musicians. Fast forward to now, almost half the village residents are full-time guitar builders and the Godin brand is the largest stringed instrument producer in Canada. In 14 years as Godin dealers, we're constantly amazed by their ability to maintain quality and quantity while staying innovative in this ever changing industry.
The Seagull S6 1982 Collection celebrates those early years by offering a value-priced version of the Seagull S6 that does not skimp on any of the critical details. It is still built with sustainably sourced Canadian Spruce and Wild Cherry and uses a thin resonate natural satin finish and retro headstock logo.....just like the early days. The S6 1982 features a slightly shorter 24.84" scale to give it a little lower string tension for easier playability, and makes it great entry point for new players. But make no mistake: This is not a "beginner" guitar and like all Seagull guitars it's a lifetime instrument.
The Dreadnought shape provides plenty of projection and low end response, and the laminate cherry back and sides gives it a snappy attack that is similar to maple, but less dry sounding. The solid cedar top adds a touch of warmth and an already broken-in tone, which is what we love about cedar. Cowboy chords really pack a punch and the upper register has plenty of attack for adventurous leads.
