TAKAMINE CP771 Ltd Orchestra CW Satin Shadowburst CPT3 electronics w/Semi-Hard Case *Authorized Dealer*
Crafted at the Takamine factory in Japan, this Limited Run Takamine CP771 represents some of the best craftsmanship that Takamine has to offer. Featuring exacting workmanship, all Mahogany construction, and Takamine's innovative Cool Tube electronics, the CP771 is an outstanding guitar for performing or recording.
Mahogany topped guitars have been around for ages, but they are certainly less common than Spruce or Cedar. Mahogany is known for it midrange emphasis, which might lead you to think that the CP771 might be on darker side and lacking brilliance. The CP771 has a throaty mid-punch which makes it particularly suited to finger and flat picking, but we found no lack of high end articulation and treble response. The tight-waisted orchestra body shape certainly helps here, and nicely complements the Mahogany's inherent midrange tendencies.
Since the late 70's, Takamine has made a name for itself as a leader in quality acoustic guitar electronics. And as with other Pro Series guitars the CP771 uses their "Palathetic" bridge transducer. Unlike other under saddle systems the Takamine assembly uses six Piezo cartridges, one for each string. The cartridges have much more sensing mass than the typical Piezo strip and they capture much more string energy. In addition, the pickup assembly is firmly coupled to the bridge and soundboard to capture the full sound of the guitar. The result is excellent string articulation and a full natural sound not possible with typical piezo systems.
This CP771 also uses their unique Cool Tube electronics. Much like a mic preamp, the Cool Tube adds vacuum tube richness to the signal. In addition the CPT3 system has extensive tone shaping capabilities. Here is what Takamine says about their Cool Tube electronics:
The CTP-3 CoolTube™, the first and only onboard tube preamp for acoustic guitar, produces a rich, full sound. It takes its name from innovative Takamine™ technology that runs its 12AU7 dual-triode vacuum tube at very low voltages—so low that it stays cool to the touch—with variable tube tone that can be adjusted from bright and brilliant to thick and warm.
The full-range EQ section uses shelving filters to sculpt bass and treble frequencies, with semi-parametric shaping control over the midrange. A control knob adjusts the frequency from 250Hz to 5kHz, and a pinpoint-precise onboard chromatic tuner is standard equipment. Other features include Mid and High cut switches for a second pickup.
The Takamine CP771 is an interesting blend of wood selection and body shape that produces a responsive and rich tone that makes it especially suited to soloists, blues players and small ensembles. It has the touch response that players desire from a smaller bodied guitar but with a huskier voice than the the typical OM shape. And the Cool Tube electronics have an organic, dimensional response that makes it an exceptional live performance acoustic.
