Takamine P3NY Natural “New Yorker” Parlor Acoustic w/Takamine Hardshell Case *Authorized Dealer*

Over the past few years Parlor guitars have had a renaissance of sorts. As players emphasize comfort, and modern electronics have made pure acoustic volume less of an issue, Parlor guitars are a great option. The Takamine P3NY “New Yorker” is a high quality Parlor guitar with a first class electronics that will take you seamlessly from the studio to stage.

The smaller air chamber of a Parlor body "pushes" the air faster than a larger bodied guitar, making them more touch sensitive and great for finger pickers or players with a light touch. The solid Cedar top creates a warmer tone than the harder more dense Spruce, and to our ears sounds "old" sooner than Spruce. For the solid back and laminated sides, Takamine uses Sapele. Sapele is an African hardwood from the Mahogany family that is similar in coloring. Sonically it has the same midrange emphasis, but it's increased hardness tends to make it slightly brighter. Our own experience is that Sapele has more high end content than Mahogany, and we think it pairs well with the Cedar top. It's warm, but complex with good high end detail. Due to it's size a Parlor will never have the low end content of a dreadnought, but the punchy midrange and fast attack is great for finger pickers or punching through a dense mix. In addition, the slotted headstock design increases string pressure on the nut which adds brilliance and sustain of the open strings.

Takamine has made a name for itself as a leader in quality acoustic guitar electronics. And as with other Pro Series guitars it includes their CT-4BII electronics with their "Palathetic" bridge transducer. In Takamine's own words, the Palathetic pickup is not your usual under-saddle piezo:

"Using six individually shielded piezo-electric elements, one for each string, the Palathetic pickup is not a just a UST (under-saddle pickup). In fact the Takamine design employs twelve times the element mass of the typical under-saddle pickup. The six elements penetrate the bridge plate, soundboard and bridge to make direct contact with the saddle creating a sonic linkage with the string. The pickup casing is mechanically attached to the guitar's top and bridge creating a sonic linkage with the soundboard. The result of this design is a signal that possesses the articulation of an isolated string signal and the rich harmonic content delivered by the resonating soundboard for a full, complete and accurate acoustic guitar tone at high sound pressure levels."

The proprietary Takamine electronics excel in live settings and the CT-4BII system and Palathetic pickup has strong output, excellent sonic detail and none of the "crackle and quack" often endemic with under saddle piezo systems. It's no mistake that performers like Bon Jovi, The Boss and Garth Brooks have been loyal Takamine players for years.

The Takamine P3NY is an expertly crafted instrument that has a personality that defies its size. For coffee house troubadours, pickers and singer-songwriters the Takamine P3NY is the perfect companion.
