One of Leo Fender's most popular and enduring amplifier designs, the Fender Princeton has stood the test of time. Originally developed as a "practice" or small nightclub amp, but with the advent of modern sound systems the Princeton now goes everywhere. For some top players -- like Guthrie Trapp and Jim Campalongo -- it's their #1 go to amplifier.

The Fender Princeton was part of Leo Fender's Blackface series that replaced the Tweed and interim Brownface amplifiers. Fender's goal was more clean volume, plus updated styling and a more durable covering that wore better than the suitcase tweed. The higher headroom fixed bias design was a home run, and the Princeton and its Deluxe Reverb sibling have been iconic amplifiers for over five decades. 

This 2019 Limited release takes the standard Princeton format and replaces the 10" speaker with a Jensen 12" P12Q speaker. This gives the Princeton a little more low end response and a touch more clean headroom. The 12" speaker replacement is a common "mod" for the Princeton, but it's a lot easier when Fender does it for you! You can also drop in 6L6 tubes in place of the 6V6 which will also give a little more headroom and low end. But in our opinion, nothing beats a 6V6 in this power range. They produce magically dimensional cleans up to about 5-6 on the dial and from there the magic happens. The breakup on this amp is rich and dimensional, and after about 7 on the volume it doesn't get too much louder, just more saturated and heavy. And all of this is perfectly controllable with your guitar's volume.

For rock, country, blues, and jazz the Princeton is a near perfect combination of size, volume and character. This Fender FSR version is one of the best examples of the breed.
