One of several Godin brand names, Norman takes its name from Norman Boucher, an early partner of Robert Godin in the village of La Patrie, Quebec. The Norman Studio ST40 has that clean, uncluttered Norman design aesthetic, right down to the Canadian-inspired rosette. Dimensionally, it is similar to current Godin and Art & Lutherie folk shapes, but with all-solid cedar and mahogany construction. Tonally, this guitar really sparkles in the mids and highs, thanks to its solid build, some nice aging—it is a circa 2015 guitar—and a slotted headstock that increases string pressure over the nut for better open-string presence. The Fishman electronics provide reliable, natural-sounding amplified tones with minimal tweaking, and the control panel flips out for easy battery changes.
This Norman Studio ST40 Folk is an affordable gem with excellent presence and note detail. It is not a bluegrass cannon, but it will appeal to fingerstylists, songwriters, and players with a more nuanced touch.
Excellent condition, with no fret wear and just a few light playing scuffs on the top. Includes a pro setup, setup checklist, and nice padded gig bag.
