Instruction booklet
This is our first acquaintance with a Ron Kirn guitar and we're mightily impressed. Reading the booklet that comes with the guitar you get a picture of someone who had set their mind to making the finest "Pre-CBS" incarnation of the most famous Fullerton designs. This is a true-to-from traditional Strat, save for the flame maple neck and locking tuners, which are decidedly non-vintage accoutrements. The generously proportioned C-shaped neck will appeal to players who like things on the chunkier side, but it does not feel overly bulky like a 50's Gibson. And for our money a little more neck mass is good for resonance and low end. And this guitar has great resonance no doubt aided by the neck, choice wood selection, precision fit and thin nitro finish that has a low gloss sheen that instantly tells you it's not poly.
If you are looking for the level of fit and finish that can only come from a small artisan builder, then this superbly built guitar is worth your consideration. From a distance it just may look like another S-type guitar, but put it in your hands and you'll know you are holding something really special.
