Here is a rare treat for our "used" collection. This is a 2018 Suhr Custom Classic S special ordered from a local dealer. With a gorgeous Rosewood neck and top notch appointments we're drawn to this Vintage Burst beauty like a bug to a light.

  • Tusq 1.650" nut, 7.5 - 9.5" radius
  • 22 Medium Stainless Steel frets
  • Gotoh "Kluson" tuners
  • Aged Green pickguard
  • (2) Mike Landau Standard single coil pickups
  • (1) Thornbucker "Pete Thorn Signature" Humbucker Bridge pickup
  • 5-Way switching, tone control bypass on 2 or 4 postions

Other than some hard-of hearing riffs at the NAMM show, we haven't played too many Suhr's so this coming through the door was a nice Suhrprise (sorry). We knew of their reputation, but after an overdue sound test through our favorite amps, consider us believers. The pickups are designed to the specs of session and tour master Mike Landau and they're just what you'd hope for: Alnico V magnets wound to a mid 60's era resistance with an extra kick in the bridge. Paired with the 2-piece Swamp Ash body the sound is beautifully balanced, with percussive power and sparkling clarity working together to make the best of your handy-work. The Thornbucker is a killer humbucker inspired by Pete Thorn's ideal 50's PAF sound. Using a soft-grip Alnico IV magnet it's wound to a mild 8.4k to give you the best of both worlds: power and clarity. This thoughtful construction offers a harmonically rich tone that captures subtle dynamic changes and easily transforms from clean twang to pure rock.

The solid Indian Rosewood neck looks as good as it plays, with an interesting compound profile and Stainless Steel medium jumbo frets. From the first fret on it gradually shifts from a soft V to C shape profile with a generous taper that gives you great hand support as you make your way towards the high register. The radius follows the profile change too, running from a vintage 7.5" to a more modern yet curvy 9.5". The nut width is a traditional 1-11/16" and we had a ton of fun giving this piece a run through so if you've been looking for a true stand-out guitar this one looks and sounds the part.
