Godin 5th Avenue Kingpin II CW HB Cognac Burst - Bag/Case Not Included *Authorized Dealer*

The Godin 5th Avenue Kingpin II HB combines the style of old-world arch top guitars with modern playability, and for the HB model a jazz-focused set of humbucker pickups. Constructed of all Canadian Cherry, the Kingpin is crisp, responsive and packs a ton of mojo and quality for the price. The Godin 5th Avenue is a perennial Godin favorite, find out why!

Hand crafted in Princeville, Quebec, the Kingpin is solidly built with an emphasis on both functionality and understated elegance and features:

  • Canadian Cherry top back and sides
  • 24.8" scale maple neck with 16" radius Rosewood fingerboard
  • Two Godin chrome covered humbuckers
  • Cognac Burst Finish with cream binding
  • Adjustable compensated TUSQ graphite bridge
  • Floating pickguard
  • Schaller strap lock buttons
  • Weighs approx. 5 pounds

The Cognac Burst finish is currently the only finish offered, and it's easy to see why. The glowing sunburst shows off a very nice Cherry grain pattern, and cherry not only sounds good but is a sustainable resource native to Canada. With its copper-ish tortoiseshell pickguard and truss rod cover, it looks like a million bucks

The cherry body projects a lot of volume with full bass, bright snappy highs and plenty of sustain. Cherry is tonally very similar to maple, but we think it has a little better bass response, and a less "dry" tone than maple. The "HB" model of the Kingpin followed a couple years after the original introduction of the very popular P-90 Kingpin CW II. The chrome covered pickups are moderate in output with a less aggressive response than the P-90's. With a softer response at the neck and overall warmer feel, this guitar leans more toward jazz, and has less of the raucous rockabilly capabilities of the original P-90 model. However you don't have to play jazz with it, and give this guitar some gain and it will respond with thick, creamy rock grind....and if you are so inclined some true hollow body feedback.

While not engineered for speedy rock licks and pull-offs, the neck is easy to navigate and plays well in the upper frets too. Strung from the factory with 12's, its the action may seem a little rugged for some. But we find that a set of 11's will make it play like butter. For jazzers, flat wound 11's or 12's are the ticket.

The Godin Kingpin has been a solid mainstay of the Godin line for years, and while Godin has toyed with various permutations, it's hard to go wrong with the original format. The addition of the Humbucker pickups gives the Kingpin a more mellow voice that will appeal to jazz players, but with the right pedal it will reveal its dark side. With a very reasonable street price, the Godin 5th Avenue is a great addition to any guitar collection.
