For 2026, the Reverend Jetstream has been replaced by the Kingbolt. But while the Kingbolt uses Reverend’s new Steel Head noiseless pickups, the Jetstream still has its conventional 9A5 P90s. A few Jetstream 290s with Bigsby are still available, though, so if you like the sound of a classic P90, grab one while you can.

Since getting started in Detroit in the late ’90s, Reverend has built a loyal following with original designs, smart features, and consistently solid quality. The Jetstream 290 is a great example—distinctive, well made, and definitely not just another guitar clone.

Originally developed by Gibson in 1946, the P90 was the original pickup used in the Les Paul. With its Alnico bar magnet and wide, flat coil, the P90 delivers clean, punchy tones with plenty of muscle for rock and blues. They’re often overshadowed by PAF humbuckers, but to us they hit the perfect balance of fatness and clarity. With some drive, a P90 bridge pickup absolutely rips, with more body than a typical single-coil and more articulation than a humbucker.

Along with the usual volume and tone controls, Reverend’s Bass Contour control is a standout feature. It’s basically a simple high-pass filter, but the results are shockingly good—smooth, musical, and useful for tightening the low end or getting brighter, spankier sounds from either pickup.

The 6-bolt roasted maple neck has 22 neatly finished frets, locking tuners, and a triple string tree—something all Fender-style headstocks should have. We measured the neck at around .830" at the 1st fret and .880" at the 12th. It’s very much in slim C territory and will feel familiar to USA Fender players.

The Bigsby-licensed vibrato with roller bridge adds a great retro look, and in our opinion Bigsbys get a bad rap. By design, they can’t move or float during normal playing, and when used with a little restraint, they’re plenty stable. Plus, if you break a string, the whole guitar doesn’t go out of tune.

If you’re a P90 lover, or just want to dip your toe into the P90 world, the Jetstream 290 has great looks, killer tone, and legendary Reverend build quality.
