The Reverend Roundhouse HH is inspired by the classic single cut style but with a flair that is 100% Reverend. The slightly offset Korina body with arched Maple top features Reverend's new Steelhead humbucking pickups and their highly effective volume, tone and bass contour controls. Reverend guitars have a reputation for great workmanship and playability, and this set-neck Roundhouse does not disappoint. The neatly finished bound Ebony fretboard has Reverend's Medium Oval profile that typically runs .830-.850" at the 1st fret and .910-.930" at the 12th. Fret work is very clean and even, and the locking tuners are a bonus. Reverend performs a real setup on each guitar -- not just a "checklist" -- and the factory setup on this Roundhouse could put some boutique builders on notice.

The Steelhead pickups are a recent innovation that as their name suggests feature large steel pole pieces. The Steelhead humbucker combines Alnico V and ceramic magnets, offering a rich blend of Alnico's warmth and ceramic's clarity and attack. It works particularly well in the neck position where the addition of the ceramic magnet add definition and keeps the wound strings from sounding muddy. With their medium output the Steelhead pickups interact well with pedals, providing plenty of sparkle, complexity, and sensitivity to picking styles.

Along the typical volume and tone control, the Reverend bass contour control is a key feature. While inspection reveals that it's just a simple high pass filter the results are impressive. It's gradual, musical and when rolling off the bass it never feels as though the sound is getting "weaker" just leaner and more defined. As it relates to humbucker pickups it's much more effective than a coil split, and if you are typically not a fan of neck humbuckers the bass contour will cure that. The contour control offers tremendous versatility, and for an HH guitar allows for lots of funky, snappy tones that would otherwise not be possible. The internal wiring is tidy, using full-size Alpha pots, film capacitors, and shielding paint.

The Roundhouse HH is a great mix of classical styling combined with the Reverend aesthetic. Paired with their new Steelhead pickups and smart control set it's a guitar that stretches the boundaries of the typical HH guitar.
